Getting started
Tap + in your library to add an EPUB book, a PDF, a Word document, a text file or a photo of a page, or paste text. To add an article, open it in Safari, tap Share, then choose OffyReads; it appears in your library the next time you open the app. Tap a book to start listening.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need an internet connection?
No. Voices, reading and everything else work offline. A connection is only used by Apple when you buy or restore OffyReads Pro.
What does the free version include?
10 minutes of listening every day with 4 English voices. The minutes reset at midnight in your device's local time.
What does OffyReads Pro add?
Every voice in every language, with no daily limit. It is a single payment, not a subscription, and it is shared with your Family Sharing group.
How do I restore my purchase?
Open Settings in OffyReads, or the purchase screen, and tap Restore purchase while signed in with the Apple Account you bought it with.
OffyReads is not in the Share menu
In the Share menu, scroll the row of apps to the end and tap More, then switch on OffyReads. If the page will not share, open it in Safari first and share it from there.
A scanned PDF reads badly
Scanned pages are read from the image of the page, so blurry or skewed scans can produce wrong words. A clearer scan, or a photo taken straight on in good light, usually fixes it.
Which languages can it read?
28 languages, including English, Japanese, Spanish, French, German, Portuguese, Italian, Chinese, Korean and Hindi. Pick a voice in the book's language for the best result. The app itself is in English.
